My name is Itzel Lopez, but I go by Itzy! I am currently majoring in Physical Geography with an Ocean Emphasis. I come from Santa Maria, located on the Central Coast of California. We are known for our amazing Santa Maria-style barbecue. My top interests are wildlife and marine conservation, politics, and space-related topics. I always like to keep myself informed on current events. I love to go on light runs when I get the chance. Running is such a good hobby because it moves your body and lifts your spirits on blue days. If I can't run, I will be gardening around my home. I will keep adding flowers and plants until my home looks like a nursery.
At UCSB, I am most excited to explore the location! The view of the beach is absolutely stunning! The different programs that UCSB offers are something I cannot wait to learn more about. A personal goal of mine is to learn how to swim! It's pretty embarrassing to be so drawn to the ocean and not be able to swim. It's ironic, isn't it? I keep going waist-deep into the ocean. I should be more careful. I hope to gain lifelong friends and meet like-minded people who share the same interest in environmental justice through the Yardi EJ Program.
